Having visited Prague as a teenager, I remembered the beauty of this place. The stunning buildings, rich history, and beautiful river combine in Prague to leave an impression that endured even in my immature teenage girl brain!
Having just visited a second time with my five children, I found the city to be just as gorgeous and fun to explore with children. We walked plenty but also enjoyed the efficient public transportation, delved into the region’s history, and fought off other tourists for the best views from the famous St. Charles Bridge.
Did you know dozens of movies were filmed in Prague? Kids will love watching the scenes from Mission Impossible and Spider-Man after visiting Prague and can be entertained for days in this famous European city.

If you are traveling in Europe, you might have explored a castle or two. The Prague Castle isn’t all that impressive, but the cathedral definitely is. You can buy a combo ticket to the castle and the cathedral (to enter deeper into the cathedral, otherwise entrance is free).
If possible, visit at noon to see the changing of the guards!
There are also plenty of ice cream shops, souvenirs, and museums in and around the castle complex to keep the kids entertained.
We don’t see many museums in our travels with five kids that aren’t geared toward kids, and we are cool with that. Retirement can bring on all the art museums and other non-kid-friendly activities. For now, we love any museum the kids love, and the Lego Museum is fantastic!
The unique gift shop is horribly overpriced. However, there is a Lego playroom and thousands of Lego sets. There are even custom Lego builds for Prague, such as the 5-meter-long St. Charles Bridge!
Speaking of museums, here is another that will delight the children. Optical illusions abound, so bring the camera!
The last museum, I promise! Haha, just kidding. I encourage you to take your kids to any museum they will tolerate. Continuing education through travel is essential!
This gem of a museum has works of art in miniature. I mean miniature! See the Lord’s Prayer on a strand of hair and other incredible works through microscopes. Take note, this one takes some time to get to if you are coming from downtown Prague.
This famous landmark deserves a visit. This clock is not only gorgeous but has moving parts on the hour.
After the clock goes off, grab a chimney cake or dinner in the spectacular town square.
Take a boat ride along the Vltava River. Not only is it easy transportation, but it’s a fabulous way to take in the fairytale nature beauty of Prague.
Check out Dětský island (also known as Children’s island) in the middle of the Vltava River. There’s a large enclosed play structure, and it’s a peaceful place to spend a couple of hours outside the busy historical center.
Another great option is Stromovka Park, a 250-acre park near the zoo.
Prague has many children’s playgrounds and parks, some right in the city on the river. Take in the sunshine and friendly culture of Prague’s playgrounds.
Brace those legs for the burn of a hundred steps, but your eyes will reward you with expansive views over Prague. Next door is a mirror maze (it’s pretty quick to walk through), and you can buy combo tickets to both.
There is also an ice cream shop, cafe, and carousel to enjoy!
To get up the hill (if you don’t want to walk), use the Petřín Funicular. The funicular railway was built in 1891 and will take you there for the price of a public transport ticket; it’s actually part of the public transit system.
My kids whined about walking here the whole time until they saw it.. and then they were fascinated. This historical wall impresses visitors with years of poetry, political writings, and more. My kids loved it, and it’s conveniently located right off the St. Charles Bridge!
Who’s the kid that doesn’t love their drinks delivered to them by an electric train?! Two locations, in Wenceslas Square and Palladium Shopping Mall, make it easy to get here.
If you stay centrally located in Prague, getting around is really easy. Walking is welcome, and the public transportation system is reliable and plentiful.
