An illuminated stone bridge, riverside buildings and towers at dusk.

Having visited Prague as a teenager, I remembered the beauty of this place.  The stunning buildings, rich history, and beautiful river combine in Prague to leave an impression that endured even in my immature teenage girl brain!

Having visited a second time with my five children, I found the city to be just as gorgeous and fun to explore with children.  We walked plenty but also enjoyed the efficient public transportation, delved into the region’s history, and fought off other tourists for the best views from the famous Charles Bridge.

Prague has served as a filming location for movies including Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which used locations such as Karlín and Prague Castle. The Czech Film Commission says scenes for Spider-Man: Far From Home that were initially planned for Prague were ultimately filmed in Liberec.

1. Prague Castle

If you are traveling in Europe, you might have explored a castle or two.  The Prague Castle isn’t all that impressive, but the cathedral definitely is. Check the current castle circuit tickets before visiting St. Vitus Cathedral. The official visitor page currently says the former free section is closed until further notice and a valid circuit ticket is required.

Check the official Castle Guard program for the date of your visit if you hope to see the ceremonial changing of the guard around noon.

There are also plenty of ice cream shops, souvenirs, and museums in and around the castle complex to keep the kids entertained.

2. Lego Museum

We don’t see many museums in our travels with five kids that aren’t geared toward kids, and we are cool with that.  Retirement can bring on all the art museums and other non-kid-friendly activities.  For now, we love any museum the kids love, and the Lego Museum is fantastic!

The unique gift shop is horribly overpriced.  However, there is a Lego playroom and thousands of Lego sets.  There are even custom Lego builds for Prague, such as the 5-meter-long Charles Bridge!

Will you also try to lie down on this bed with more than 1,200 nails?

3. Museum of Senses

Speaking of museums, here is another that will delight the children.  Optical illusions abound, so bring the camera!

4. Miniature Museum

The last museum, I promise!  Haha, just kidding.  I encourage you to take your kids to any museum they will tolerate.  Continuing education through travel is essential!

This gem of a museum has works of art in miniature. I mean miniature!  See the Lord’s Prayer on a strand of hair and other incredible works through microscopes.  Take note, this one takes some time to get to if you are coming from downtown Prague.

This Astronomical Clock in Prague is a must-see. The twelve apostles appear on the hour from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.; the clock also displays astronomical data and a zodiac calendar.

5. Astronomical Clock Downtown

This famous landmark deserves a visit.  This clock is not only gorgeous but has moving parts on the hour.

After the clock goes off, grab a chimney cake or dinner in the spectacular town square.

6. Boat Ride On The Vltava River

Take a boat ride along the Vltava River.  Not only is it easy transportation, but it’s a fabulous way to take in the fairytale nature beauty of Prague.

7. Visit a Prague Park

Check out Dětský island (also known as Children’s island) in the middle of the Vltava River. There’s a playground, and it’s a peaceful place to spend a couple of hours outside the busy historical center.

Another great option is Stromovka Park, a large green space that Prague City Tourism lists at 95 hectares, or about 235 acres.

Prague has many children’s playgrounds and parks, some right in the city on the river.  Take in the sunshine and friendly culture of Prague’s playgrounds.

8. Visit Petřín Hill and the Eiffel Tower of Prague

Check the lookout tower’s current stair and access arrangements before starting the climb, but your eyes will reward you with expansive views over Prague.  Next door is a mirror maze (it’s pretty quick to walk through), and you can check current ticket options for both.

There is also an ice cream shop, cafe, and carousel to enjoy!

The Petřín Funicular dates to 1891 and resumed service on 22 September 2026. Prague City Tourism currently lists daily service from 7:00 a.m. to 10:15 p.m., a 100 CZK single ticket (90 CZK through the PID Lítačka app), and acceptance of 24- and 72-hour public transport tickets, Lítačka, and the Prague Visitor Pass. Check the official listing before your visit for changes.

9. The Lennon Wall

My kids whined about walking here the whole time until they saw it.. and then they were fascinated.  This historical wall impresses visitors with years of poetry, political writings, and more.  My kids loved it, and it’s conveniently located right off the Charles Bridge!

10. Vytopna Train Restaurant

Who’s the kid that doesn’t love their drinks delivered to them by an electric train?!  Check the restaurant’s current locations, hours, and booking arrangements before promising the kids a train-delivered drink.

How To Get Around Prague

  • 3BR and 3CR for eight guests in the Old Town or Staré Mesto. Several landmarks are found nearby, like the medieval Astronomical Clock and the Gothic Church of Our Lady Before Týn. If you are interested in the nightlife, the vast 5-story Karlovy Lázně dance club is just at the end of the street.
  • 4BR and 2.5CR for nine guests in the City Centre. Wenceslas Square, Old Town Square, and Charles Bridge are some of the attractions nearby. There is also a transport connection 5-mins away: Metro and Tram stations Narodni Trida or Karlovo Namesti.
  • 6BR and 3.5CR for twelve guests located on subway station Karlovo Namesti on link B. It’s a neighborhood of Vltava river, Palackeho square, full of green vegetation, and the interesting Emauz monastery.

The original March 2023 article also included these hotel links. Current facilities, locations, and availability have not been verified.

  • Alchymist Grand Hotel & Spa is a 5-star luxury hotel nesting in a quiet location. It’s a neighbor to St. Vitus Cathedral and Charles Bridge.
  • Cosmopolitan Hotel Prague is situated close to Old Town Square. Few minutes of walking and you’ll reach Na Příkopě, a street in the center of Prague that separates the Old Town from the New Town
