If you’re anything like me, thoughts of Christmas mean snow-dusted landscapes, cozy evenings by the fire, and endless opportunities for family adventures. Currently living in Portugal, I’m trying to adjust to the Christmas trips to the beach and the more mild winters. While I love not having to drive in the snow in Portugal, I crave white Christmases! We’ve made a deal that we will alternate Christmases at home and abroad and try to catch some snow when we are away.
Our recent family getaway to Château-Bromont in Quebec delivered all that I was hoping for and more! It was a true winter wonderland, and we were on a mission to soak up the snow. Let me tell you, this adventure was one for the books. The temperatures dipped as low as -18°C, but the magic of the experience made every frosty moment worth it. Some of us froze, but I reveled in the crisp air and snowy landscapes. We had high hopes when we booked French Quebec for Christmas, and Château-Bromont and Bromont, Montagne d’expériences exceeded every expectation. Just an hour or so outside of Montreal, this lovely ski resort greeted us with fresh snow every day of our visit!

Our ski-in/ski-out condo made ski days about 1000% easier with kids—no hauling gear in and out of the car back and forth or battling long walks in ski boots. Renting equipment right on-site saved us a ton of hassle, too. The mountain was incredibly well-maintained, and the ski patrol team was constantly visible, keeping everyone safe, which truly makes a mama’s heart happy.
Château-Bromont is located in the heart of the Eastern Townships in Quebec, Canada, at the base of Mount Bromont. It’s conveniently situated just an hour’s drive from Montreal and about two hours from Quebec City, making it an easy weekend getaway for families or couples looking for a quick escape.
Our drive from Montreal was easy and stress-free. Most of the drive is on a plowed highway, and we found the roads to the resort to also be well-maintained.
If you’re flying in, the closest airport is Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL). From there, you can rent a car for a scenic drive to Bromont or arrange for shuttle services. The well-maintained highways and clear signage make the journey smooth and stress-free.For those already in the area, the hotel is just minutes away from the charming Bromont village, which offers additional dining, shopping, and cultural experiences.
We went during December, and our family of seven (yes, all five kids in tow!) had the pleasure of enjoying our stay at Château-Bromont in one of the townhomes. Nestled at the foot of the Bromont mountain, this charming hotel perfectly blends comfort, style, and family-friendly amenities. You can literally see the slopes just steps away from the condo, which is amazing.
Our condo was a one-bedroom with a loft. It sleeps six in beds (two in the bedroom and four upstairs in the loft), and we had a teen on the couch. There is one full bathroom for all, as well as a complete kitchen and washer and dryer (a major bonus when skiing with kids).
I also loved some of the smaller touches, including that they had a Christmas tree all set for us to enjoy cozy winter holiday vibes. The stunning views of the snow-covered slopes were a dream to wake up to every morning.
Our package included daily breakfast, which was a delicious spread every morning—think fresh pastries, fruit, and warm, hearty dishes. It was wonderful to enjoy this with a comforting cup of hot chocolate each day!
The hotel boasts 166 cozy rooms and suites, some featuring wood-burning fireplaces and private balconies, which added a charming touch to our stay.
As a family, we made the most of the on-site facilities. The indoor and outdoor pools were a hit with the kids—they couldn’t resist a quick swim and dip into the outdoor hot tub, even in the heart of winter! The heated water and their excitement made it a memorable experience.
Running from the inside door to the hot tubs through the snow is a fun memory from the trip, and no one complained at all once we were in the lovely hot tub. The snow was falling, and we could reminisce about the beautiful slopes we skied on just hours earlier.
The fitness center was also a nice option for keeping active, though the slopes often gave us all the workout we needed!
One of the highlights of our stay was undoubtedly our dinner at Château-Bromont’s gourmet restaurant. Chris and I enjoyed every bite of our four-course meal, savoring everything from rich appetizers to decadent desserts.
And for the kids? The children’s menu was spot-on, with dishes that kept everyone happy (and quiet—always a win at a restaurant!). They were so tired from skiing that they didn’t quite make it through the meal, but they loved the ice cream at the end.
Breakfast each morning was equally impressive. There’s something about starting your day with a hot meal and a view of snow-covered mountains that sets the tone for adventure.
For lighter bites or drinks, guests can also visit the Beagle Club, a cozy spot perfect for winding down in the evening.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two ski days at Bromont Mountain Ski Resort. We rented our equipment on-site, which added to the ease of taking five kids skiing.
Whether you’re a seasoned skier or a total beginner (like our little one, Grace), Bromont has trails suited for every skill level. In fact, there are over 140 trails to enjoy on seven slopes. Bonus: over 100 of these are lit at night!
The smaller kids had a blast gliding down the gentler slopes, while Chris and the teens took turns exploring some of the more challenging runs. I roped in the older ones to help with the littlest when getting on and off the six-person, high-speed lift chair and getting her down the mountain for the first time.
While you can easily bring your own lunch and enjoy it in the main buildings at the base of the resort (with a microwave available), we opted to enjoy the cafe for lunch. We found the options to be delicious and plentiful. We enjoyed soup, hot chocolate, salads, and the local Canadian favorite, poutine. This hearty option of french fries topped with fry sauce, cheese curds, and sometimes meat, is delicious but best to share!
The cafe prices matched what we’ve found in most ski resorts, with options around $10-15 CAD per person. Remember, you’ll be spending Canadian dollars, so check what the conversion is against your home currency.
Honestly, there’s no better feeling than returning to the hotel after a full day of outdoor fun, sinking into a cozy armchair, and wrapping your hands around a steaming mug of hot cocoa. Skiing wears you out in a way that is very different from your normal routine and leaves you feeling satisfied. We curled up with some Christmas movies each night and enjoyed our snowy getaway.
Beyond skiing, Bromont is a hub for year-round outdoor activities. From mountain biking and hiking to water park adventures in the summer months, there’s always something exciting to do, no matter the season. I hope we can return to enjoy the large waterpark on-site in the summer months.
Obviously, we are big on travel. I find that we get more time with our teens while traveling than we get during several weeks at home! We love the bonding that happens while we travel. Ski trips are a lot of work (and expensive), but fun when you can share experiences as a family.
This trip reminded me a lot of our time at Brian Head Resort in Utah. While the settings were different, the joy of seeing our kids tackle the slopes, enjoy delicious meals, and just spend time as a family felt so familiar.
There’s something special about these ski trips where the kids grow in confidence, and we get to share those little victories with them. Whether it was our youngest finally getting the hang of skiing or our older kids racing each other down the slopes, these are the moments we’ll treasure forever.
