We’ve already covered visiting Versailles, the Paris catacombs, and the Eiffel Tower with our kids. But what about those moments when you just want a romantic date with your partner in the ultimate City of Love?
While we were full-time traveling the world, we made sure to prioritize date nights! Our oldest daughter was a rock star and allowed us to use her babysitter skills for this. We also hired some babysitters around the world. Being with your kids 24/7 is amazing, but parents also deserve some adult breaks.
I have to say, Paris was one of our favorite cities to date, we’ve had some spectacular dates there! We stayed a month in Paris (might as well when you have the time, right?!) and did a LOT of dates while there. Also, we did tons of fun activities with the kids and our company when they visited! Check out our visit to Versailles as a group for that.
Let’s be honest—we all dream about a romantic getaway in Paris! The city is iconic, beautiful, and full of charm.

Romantic Things to Do in Paris
To make things easier, I’ve divided this post into things you can do outdoors and indoors. Weather makes a big difference, as does time of year. After all, Paris is so beautiful that simply walking through the streets could be a date! But let’s make your date even better. Paris is full of amazing things to do as a couple, from four-wheelers through the city, a completely dark restaurant where you eat “blind” and the Louvre, one of the world’s most amazing museums.
Five Fun Outdoor Date Ideas in Paris
If you’re not a big fan of crowds and would rather escape them, then maybe this part is for you! Some museums tend to be super busy, so why not take some time to explore outside? After all, Paris is so big you won’t get bored; find there are plenty of places to see.
We had a blast during this scooter stroll along Paris for our date!
Walking Tours: Let’s start with the simplest idea. Most of these tours include other people—they’re not a private activity. However, guides usually have small groups so they can give you and your partner the best experience. And one of the things that I love is that it is a budget-friendly date idea! Some walking tours are free, but there are also many paid options that take you to the best hidden spots in Paris!
Doing a walking tour or food tour when you first get to a new city can help you orient to the city in a fun way, learn about some of the history, and more. Plus, we think the food in Paris is the best in the world (even more than our favorite foods in our home in Portugal!) Check out some of these tour options!
Montmartre Walking Tour with a Local Guide: Experience the bohemian district of Montmartre in a one-hour-long walking tour! What I loved about this tour is that your guide takes you where very famous painters like Picasso and Van Gogh lived, but you also get views of some of the highest points of Paris (Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Moulin Rouge, and more). Plus, it includes family photos!
Paris Top Sights Half-Day Walking Tour with a Fun Guide: This tour is a bit longer and it’s more of a mid-range price, and you need to have a metro card! However, apart from visiting all the popular monuments, you also walk through markets, boutiques, and cafés.
Paris: Montmartre Food Tasting Walking Tour with Secret Dish: This walking tour is more on the pricey side as it takes you through places where you can eat authentic Parisian food! So, if you’re a foodie you may enjoy this one and also if you’re looking for a different experience. It’s a Three-and-a half hour tour to try pastries, wine, cheese, artisan chocolates, crepes, and more.
Take a night walking tour and see the Arc of Triumph for a romantic date!
Some walking tours include trying authentic Parisian food!
Scooter and Bike Tours: This activity is one that we really enjoyed! There are many options, and you can be flexible with whether you’d like to go during daytime or nighttime. You can choose between a scooter and a bike. Personally, we took a night scooter stroll through Paris and it was so worth it! The views are stunning and it’s honestly a great way to pass through a lot of the most iconic places in this city.
Bike Through Paris: This is a three hour tour that takes you throughout the city. Usually, if you don’t know or it’s been a while since you last rode a bike, they give you a few minutes to warm up. For this experience you also get to visit some hidden gems in Paris and trendy cafés and shops!
Take a Scooter Tour: If you’re looking for an electric scooter ride, then this might be the one for you! It includes helmets and a local guide who’ll take you from Pont des Arts to the Grand Palais. You can also get to ride through small streets and experience Paris in all its glory!
I’m a little scared of electric scooters, to be honest, and our guide did actually fall. But I still had a great time! It was nice to go at night, as the crowds on the street were a bit less, but bring lots of layers! My husband was sooo cold in only shorts.
Taking a scooter and riding along the most important landmarks of Paris was so much fun!
Picnic in the Park: This is one of the most popular date activities to do during the summer in Paris! It’s a budget-friendly option (as you get to choose what you’d like to eat), so this makes it a perfect activity for just about every couple! You can also pay for a romantic Parisian picnic where everything is arranged for you. We love grocery stores in France and exploring the fresh baguettes, the cheeses, the non-alcoholic drinks (for us) and making a picnic out of these is super easy. Top it off with some macarons!
If you aren’t sure where to picnic in Paris, here are my recommendations:
Champ de Mars: Right at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
Seine River: Here you have SO many options! But let me tell you my two favorite ones, starting with the easiest that doesn’t require a lot of planning:
Taking a stroll along the river: This cute date idea in Paris is perfect for quiet chats and river views. It is so peaceful, and you can go at your own pace.
Seine River Cruise at Sunset or Night: While it’s a popular option, it’s also one of the most romantic date ideas in Paris. You can eat, sightsee, and choose from different menu budget options. Plus, you can do this activity all year round—no matter the weather.
We did one and while you are part of a big group, it’s still quite romantic. There is nothing quite like passing below the sparkling Eiffel Tower as you enjoy some amazing dessert.
A cruise on the Seine River is always a good idea for a romantic day in Paris.
The Seine River cruise was a really romantic and beautiful experience.
Eiffel Tower at Night: Nothing beats watching the Eiffel Tower light up at night with your loved one. Yes, it’s cliché—but it sparkles every hour! You don’t have to pay to enjoy this iconic landmark. Just pick a good spot, relax, and take in the breathtaking show (why not have a photoshoot there). You can go to a nearby café, restaurant, or a park and sit down and enjoy this breathtaking show!
Note that there are LOTS of vendors around this icon, and you can get a little overwhelmed by their constant petitions. Consider finding a side street, like we did below, to enjoy the few and snap your photos.
As you can see it was cold, but it was still so romantic to have these vies for a Paris night out!
Intimate Indoor Experiences for Couples
Now you know things you can do outdoors while in Paris. However, most of these activities are things best done when the weather is nice and not rainy or too cold! Whether you’re a big fan of visiting palaces, and museums, or would rather have a more intimate indoor experience, this list is for you.
Visit Museums: If you’re a bit of a history nerd, you’ll probably love this idea. Paris is full of museums and monuments that are worth seeing. However, I’d suggest you visit less crowded and more intimate museums like the Musée de l’Orangerie, which costs €26.75 per person, the Musée Rodin, this one costs €24.43 per person or the Palais Garnier, which costs €15 per person.
For our date in Paris, we went to Palais Garnier: it was stunning!
Watching imposing architecture while on a date with your loved one was a one of a kind experience.
Take a Cooking Class Together: We love a fun cooking class! And what better way to do it by learning to cook something authentically Parisian! Consider a croissant or macaron workshop. We did a macaron class both as a couple and then a kids’ version. I loved both!
If you’re into cooking or just want to stay out of the ordinary, this can be a fun option that will bring you and your partner closer together!
Couples Photoshoot: We already told you about a photoshoot in front of the Eiffel Tower, but there are other amazing spots too! If you and your partner love photos, this can also be a very fun and intimate activity. Plus, some photographers know amazing romantic spots in Paris. Think of it as a different way to explore Paris while keeping those memories in amazing photos!
We’ve used Flytographer a couple of times, and I highly recommend them! They pair you with a local photographer who is going to act a little like a tour guide as well, showing you some amazing spots and answering questions about the city. You don’t need to stress about vetting the photographer, as they do all the hard work for you.
Our photographer did an amazing job. Who wouldn’t want to have a memory like this in front of the Eiffel Tower?
We were so excited and thankful that our photographer was able to capture this moment for us in Paris!
Shopping Date: If you’re into shopping, flea markets, or souvenir shopping, then visiting unique stores in Paris is for you! Here’s what you can do depending on your mood:
Galeries Lafayette: Apart from having such imposing architecture, this place has an amazing rooftop that overlooks the city. We did a macaron tasting (just the two of us) from several shops in these galleries and made a fun date night out of it.
Local shopping: Visit the stands along the Seine, which have unique posters and cards (great for gifting your loved one something original). Or visit other stores like Marin Montagut, and Merci.
Wine Tasting Experience: This one is for my wine and cheese lovers! While we don’t drink wine, I know many of you do! Enjoy an afternoon with an expert sommelier who will show you five French wines from five French wine regions. Also, learn how to pair them up with artisanal cheeses. Plus, this experience includes one glass of champagne… ain’t that amazing?
Visit the Catacombs. We did this with the kids and loved it, but it can also be super fun (and a bit easier) without the kids. Grab the audioguide, which I highly recommend, and explore underground the streets of Paris. Uncover the amazing history and sacred burial spots that now exist there. You can also watch for a concert of other event!
Did you know locals in Paris meet underground on a regular basis? The tunnels underneath Paris are not restricted to the monitored sections! We learned from our tour guide that locals have places they meet on the regular. I can’t quite imagine meeting friends underground, but do as the locals and check it out.
A very original and interesting way to spend with your date in Paris!
Where to Eat & Drink in Paris on a Date
Let’s bring in more romantic date ideas in Paris! If you’re only looking for a calm afternoon or if you’re a foodie, perhaps you’re looking for romantic restaurants. There are many options, it’s hard to choose one, honestly, as it really does depend on what you like.
Breakfast or brunch dates can be so fun in Paris. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So, starting off with a restaurant like La Bossue is a great option! This place has authentic, homemade French dishes and pastries. The place is cozy, small, and overall very unique and romantic. But if you’re looking for a fancier breakfast, you can go to Aux Cerises. Which also offers French and European breakfast and brunch.
Now let’s talk about dinner dates in Paris! Most of the next options have lunch and dinner options but what I like that Paris dinner dates are more romantic. You can choose from classic French restaurants, to rooftop views to hidden gems.
Our dinner date in Paris was something out of this world.
When going for dinner dates in Paris, check if you need to make a reservation. For those looking for a one-of-a-kind experience, this Michelin star restaurant might be your best bet: It’s called Boutary Restaurant, and you won’t be disappointed with its original and delicious menu as well as its romantic ambiance.
Another one-of-a-kind experience is to eat in complete darkness! We were suggested the “In The Dark Paris Restaurant”, or Restaurant Dans le Noir. It’s so unique that we still talk about it several years later! You get a gourmet meal served to you in complete darkness. In fact, many of the waiters are legally blind! Taking away the visual aspect of the meal changes the experience big time. We tried guessing the flavors, which are presented at the end, and were off several times!
For those of you who are not precisely looking for an affordable option, then Nectaris the place you’re looking for! This place has authentic French food and has live jazz music onsite, perfect for a romantic dinner.
We had a blast tasting authentic french food while on our date.
And lastly, for those of you who are looking for a cute restaurant in Paris while still being on budget and getting the full French experience, La Reserve Du Terroir is a great choice. This place is a bar, it’s small, and in a hidden street on the middle of Paris. Perfect to get to know more about this city and its hidden gems.
Apart from these options, you will be able to find many rooftop restaurants and bars. For example, the La Terrasse Rooftop-Hotel Raphael has a very charming view. You’ll also find many cafés and bars, plus pastries, crepes, and macarons in case you’re looking for something sweet or more casual.
Where to Stay in Paris for Your Romantic Trip
But let’s not forget about one of the most important things to consider when visiting Paris: the hotel! When choosing your hotel, you have to take into account location, price (depending on your budget), and what it offers. So, for these suggestions we’re gonna focus on the most romantic hotels in Paris:
Shangri-La Paris: Would you like to stay in a palace? Then this might be what you’re looking for. The Shangri-La Paris is a very elegant hotel well suited for those of you who are looking for a luxurious experience.
It’s located across the Seine river and some suites face the Eiffel Tower. It also has two restaurants, an indoor pool, and a spa. Get ready to experience a fusion between Asian and European cultures in this majestic hotel!
Merveil Paris: If you’re looking for a not so expensive and romantic stay, this might be the option! It’s located right at the heart of the city, and you can book a suite with a Tower Eiffel view (which is just a four-minute walk). This hotel has authentic Parisian decoration and architecture. As well as services such as shuttle, daily housekeeping, and really comfortable bedrooms.
Hotel Maison FL: This charming 1930s hotel is perfect for those of you who value budget, comfort, and location. Some rooms have a balcony or terrace that allow you to have those iconic Parisian rooftop views. Plus the Eiffel Tower for some rooms! Be sure to ask for their airport shuttle service and breakfast, as it has good reviews.
Best Seasons for a Romantic Paris Trip
When planning your romantic getaway in Paris, take into account the season and crowds. But also, what you’d like to experience in Paris! Summer weather is perfect for outdoor activities, and Christmas has its magical charm. Let’s go through the pros and cons of each season.
Taking some time for us was such a great idea during our trip to Paris!
The Eiffel Tower is a good idea for a Paris date no matter the season.
Starting with spring, this season has such good weather! You can see the cherry blossoms at Parc de Sceaux, as the weather is very enjoyable. Keep in mind, though, that many kids worldwide are on spring break! So, you might find most places to be too crowded. May is usually safer than March and April to avoid spring break crowds.
Summer is also perfect for outdoor activities. You can do outdoor cinema, enjoy open-air concerts, walk all through the city even during late hours! However, this season tends to be more expensive. Pretty much everyone is out of school, people take vacations, and who wouldn’t want to enjoy Paris during summer?
I love autumn—everywhere. The color of the trees, the seasonal drinks, pretty much everything about this season is perfect. Paris during autumn is perfect for taking a romantic walk or date throughout the city.October tends to be the least expensive month for travel and is also our anniversary-bonus! The weather is just beginning to cool, so it’s perfect for Montmartre Versailles gardens or Seine river walks.
We loved our date night to the Sacre Cour, or Sacred Heart Basilica. We brought a lock and hung out on the famous lock bridge there. So cute!
Don’t forget to put your lock with your loved one in Paris!
Last but not least, winter can be a great season in Paris. If you’re a big fan of Christmas, like me, then you’ll enjoy the magical charm Paris holds during this season. It’s perfect for visiting the Christmas markets, drinking some hot chocolate, and overall enjoying the holiday cheer (plus, there’s lights everywhere!).
Quick Tips for the Perfect Paris Date Without the Kids
Now you know which places you can go depending on season, budget, and what you like. But when visiting some countries, you have to take certain things or rules into consideration. So here are a few tips to make your visit more enjoyable!
Dress code: some restaurants, depending on type of cuisine or tier, have dress codes. SO… make sure to wear something appropriate (following proper etiquette) before heading to these places.
Stores to buy food (for picnic): Instead of buying your food from street vendors, try visiting local shops or restaurants. You’ll probably find more variety or even better prices.
Free museums on the first Sunday of the month: This is a great tip if you’re traveling on a budget. However, for this you’d have to have a European Union passport and be younger than 26 years old (but don’t worry, many parks and museums are always free!).
Language: For a more authentic or smooth experience, be sure to learn a few basic phrases and words. This will enhance your experience and help you for any emergency! Also, don’t forget to learn how to say “I love you” (je t’aime) in French.
