Our youngest two watched our old waterpark video for years and begged to go back. In July 2025, we finally returned to Grand Canyon Water Park near Chiang Mai with all five kids! Below are the full film from that return, clearly labeled moments from our first visit in 2019, and the practical notes I would use when planning another family day here.
The full film above follows our July 2025 return. The two clips labeled 2019 below come from our earlier outing, when our youngest two stayed home. Prices in our old trip notes and videos are historical; use the linked operator pages for current details.
We are big fans of waterparks. We’ve been to waterparks in Portugal, Germany, Colorado, and many more. Water + sun + slides? I’m in! I love wearing my kids out at a good waterpark. However, there are water parks and then there is the Grand Canyon Water Park near Chiang Mai, Thailand. This place deserves a category of its own! Imagine the show “Wipeout” came to life in a giant reservoir and added on many amenities, including a cafe, showers, locker rooms, ziplines, etc.
We first visited the Grand Canyon Water Park in 2019 when our kids were relatively young–our oldest was only 10 years old. Because of that, we left our two youngest home (it is not really fun for tiny kids, although they have added a small pool area since our first visit).
What a difference a few years made! In 2019, our oldest was ten and we left our two youngest home. By July 2025, all five could join our family outing. Here is how the park looked on that first visit, before the return footage and planning notes below.

Our two youngest kids have been watching our video of this place for years since then and begging us to go back! When we planned to return to Asia this year, we included Chiang Mai in our itinerary, specifically for this water park. We love many things in Chiang Mai, from meeting elephants to exploring the old city and night markets, but this water park was our calling card this time! Was it worth it? 100%. It was more fun than I could have imagined.
The giant inflatables were the reason we came back. There are climbing sections, platforms, and obstacles spread across the water, with a kayak dock beside the course. This wide view from our return helps explain why it felt so different from a conventional pool-and-slides waterpark.

For our family, the inflatables were the big draw. The park also has a separate kids’ area, but not every activity suits every child. Check the operator’s current eligibility rules and think about who will supervise younger children before planning your day.

The quarry-like setting is part of what makes this park feel so different: red cliffs surround the water and the inflatable course.
The red cliffs provide a picturesque backdrop to the water and slides, and we appreciate that it is an enclosed space, although very large.
The Grand Canyon Water Park features numerous facilities, including slides, an inflatable course, a zip line, a wakeboard, a kids’ zone and even two jumping pillows. One of the jumping pillows you can launch your kids off of (I loved doing this!). The other jumping pillow has an employee that will launch adults off! Only my oldest son could do this due to the risk of injury (it does hurt something when you hit the water!). My boys especially loved the inflatable climbing wall, the diving/jumping platforms and the endless fun on the inflatable course. They literally ran themselves ragged and were so sad to leave. They would have loved to come multiple days!

Grand Canyon Water Park was the ultimate Chiang Mai cooldown!
We all loved the cafe for lunch. It felt expensive for Thailand but still affordable for us, and we enjoyed the food, desserts, and drinks. It was a welcome family break between sessions in the water. The park’s current guidance says children need parent or guardian supervision; a cafe stop is not a substitute for that.

With seven of us, room for the whole family is part of the planning. This quick moment from our wider Chiang Mai film shows us in the van on the waterpark outing. I would confirm vehicle size and the pickup plan in advance rather than assume every taxi or transfer can take our whole family.

The location of the Grand Canyon Water Park is actually great! If you’re staying in Chiang Mai you can easily get there in 30 minutes.

This time our visit to Chiang Mai was in July. This is rainy season and we did see rain every day, even if it was brief. However, that’s not a problem at all since this is a water park! If it is not raining, there are giant sprinklers keeping the entire inflatable park wet anyway.

Chiang Mai’s Grand Canyon Water Park delivered hours of splashy fun and family laughs.
We had a big downpour while we were there, and we all loved it. Warm, clean rain was so pleasant as we swam and played on the inflatables. I would go during rainy season again based on that visit, but weather and crowd levels vary; I would not plan around a promise of fewer tourists.
For current weather decisions, follow the park’s instructions. Its official guidance says activities may pause during heavy rain, strong wind, or thunderstorms.
If you’re looking for milder and pleasant weather, you could consider visiting from November to February. This is the time when it begins to cool down, and the rainy season is over.
Try visiting during weekdays, early in the morning, so you can better enjoy the park. By arriving early, you can also get cooler temperatures compared to the afternoon. It’s a good idea to arrive as soon as parks open to make the most out of your day. We were so sad to leave at closing time.

The prices and height categories below are what this article recorded for our 2025 visit, not current quotes. Before you go, check the official ticket and activity page for current prices and eligibility. The page currently lists giant-slider access for guests 15 and older and high platforms for ages 18 and older; requirements can change, so confirm the exact activity for your date. There are still numerous ticketing options available for you to choose from. Just keep in mind that adults in this park are considered from 120 cm of height and kids are considered from 90 to 120cm of height. Smaller kids enter free.

The Grand Canyon Water Park in Thailand doesn’t just have attractions for the most adventurous ones to have fun. Various facilities will come in handy in case you need to rest, eat or let the youngest members of your crew enjoy the park too! Let’s go facility by facility:

I loved the pillow that let me launch the kids! There was also a separate pillow where an employee launched adults, and our oldest was the only one of our kids who tried that one. Those were different activities in our experience. Here is some of the launch-pillow action from our return; check the current instructions and eligibility for the specific activity you are considering.

The climb back onto an inflatable is part of the outing, too. This water-level view makes that easier to picture than an aerial shot. For a mixed-age family, I would plan which adult will stay with each child before spreading out between the course and the kids’ area.

The kids area in the Grand Canyon Waterpark is perfect for the littlest ones in your crew!
Different areas suited different members of our family. The inflatable course was the big draw for the older kids, while the separate kids’ zone gives younger visitors another option. Check the current restrictions for each activity and plan adult supervision for the children using it.
I would still think carefully before bringing very young children for a full day. On our first visit, we chose to leave our youngest two home. A small kids’ zone and a large inflatable obstacle course offer very different days out, so choose around your own children rather than expecting everyone to enjoy the same activities.

Nothing beats a splash day in Chiang Mai!
Being able to enjoy the waterpark together on our return was a BLAST. That does not mean everyone in our family used every attraction. If some children cannot join an activity, plan how the adults will divide supervision. If you have younger kids, you might also consider a babysitter. I’ve used them all over the world.

We had a blast at Grand Canyon water park in Chinag Mai.
We learned one camera lesson the expensive way on our first visit. The GoPro we put on our son with a chest attachment came off and sank! That is the 2019 story in the clip below, not a mishap from our July 2025 return. Chris also revisited our mistakes in our separate older “9 Things Not To Do” film; its prices and rules are historical, so use the park’s current instructions for planning.
